AppSumo’s We Got Your Back Guarantee

Welcome, Sumo-lings, to AppSumo’s We Got Your Back Guarantee (formerly known as the Purchase Protection Policy). We’ll also refer to it as “We Got Your Back,” or the “Guarantee.” This Guarantee was last updated on October 8, 2024.

TLDR; We Got Your Back provides a 100% credit to Plus customers and a 50% credit to non-Plus customers whenever a Select tool shuts down within 12 months of the purchase date. In order to receive these credits, customers must write into our Support team at support@appsumo.com


AppSumo operates as the #1 digital marketplace for entrepreneurs. Although we’re proud to be #1, third-party creators and developers (whom we call our “Partners”) do the hard part. They build, operate, and support the digital products you buy in the Marketplace and almost always do it all so well. However, there are occasions when Partners can no longer continue to maintain their Products. We Got Your Back describes what we do if this occurs.


Most products listed on AppSumo’s Marketplace are fully-refundable for any reason within 60 days of purchase under our 60-day money-back guarantee. With We Got Your Back, extended purchase protection applies to certain purchases. AppSumo Plus Customers may become eligible to receive store credit covering 100% of the purchase price of a Select Product in the event it shuts down within 12 months of the date of purchase.  Non-Plus Customers may become eligible to receive store credit covering 50% of the purchase price in that event.  Store credits are issued as AppSumo Credits, which are not exchangeable for cash. In order to be eligible to receive AppSumo Credits, Customers must email AppSumo’s Support Team at support@appsumo.com within 30 days from the date a closure announcement is made by AppSumo.  Learn more about the eligibility requirements below.


Moving on to the finer print, let’s make sure we’re on the same page, so a few rules and definitions:


Customers

  • Customers: You are considered a Customer if you purchase any Product (defined below) on the Marketplace. Under the We Got Your Back, we have two types of Customers: Plus Customers and Non-Plus Customers.
    • Plus Customers: a Customer is considered a Plus Customer if the Customer had an active AppSumo Plus membership at the time of the applicable Product’s purchase or has an active AppSumo Plus membership on the Closure Date (defined below) that was active before the announcement of the applicable Product Closure (defined below).


    • Non-Plus Customer: Under We Got Your Back, a customer who is not a Plus Customer is considered a Non-Plus Customer.


  • Eligible Customers: We Got Your Back protection is available only to Customers who notify AppSumo Support at support@appsumo.com within 30 days of the Closure Date of an applicable Product Closure. By doing so, you become an Eligible Customer with respect to the applicable Product Closure. (This is important, so please read on to understand terms like Product Closure and Closure Date.)


Partners, Products & Purchases

  • Partners: A “Partner” is the person or organization that builds, operates, and supports the digital products that are listed for sale on AppSumo’s Marketplace. 


  • Products: “Products” are the digital products sold on the AppSumo Marketplace. Under We Got Your Back, we classify Products into distinct categories:
    • Select Products: Products hand-picked and vetted by our team for usability and functionality. The Select Badge indicates that a Product is a Select Product. While we make no guarantees concerning Select Products, they are held to our high standards of performance.


    • Non-Select Products: (What a name?!) These Products go through a light vetting process. Although there are many gems in this bunch, the AppSumo team is less involved in the launch of Non-Select Products as compared to Select Products.


    • Plus Exclusives: These are Products that we offer exclusively to Plus Customers on a limited basis. 


  • Product Closure: A Product Closure occurs if Customers no longer have access to the applicable Product because the Partner ceases to offer it. For the purposes of We Got Your Back, the “Closure Date” is the day that AppSumo announces the closure of a Product on its applicable Product Detail Page. 


  • Product Detail Page: The webpage on AppSumo where the Partner’s Product is sold and that provides information about the Product, including an overview of the Product, reviews, and announcements concerning the Product. AppSumo will post information concerning Product Closure and the applicable Closure Date on this webpage if the Product is no longer available for use.


  • Purchase Date: The date a Customer purchases a Product through the AppSumo Marketplace.

Here is how we help our Eligible Customers* in the event of a Product Closure, broken out by Customer types. 


* Please remember to visit the Product Detail Pages of your Products because your eligibility for We Got Your Back protection depends on your contacting AppSumo Support within 30 days of the Closure Date.


Event Plus Customers Non-Plus Customers
Product Closure of a Select Product or Non-Select Product, during the Product’s specified no-questions-asked refund period (typically 60-days from Purchase Date) A full refund in the original form of payment is available during the specified no-questions-asked refund period.

Product Closure of a Select Product, if the applicable Closure Date occurred within 12 months of the applicable Purchase Date

AppSumo Credits in the amount of 50% of the Product purchase price are available to Eligible Customers.  Learn more about AppSumo Credits.

Product Closure of a Select Product, if the applicable Closure Date is more than 12 months after the Purchase Date No AppSumo Credits will be available. No AppSumo Credits will be available.
Product Closure of a Non-Select Product

No AppSumo Credits will be available.

Refunds are available only during the Product’s specific no-questions-asked refund period.

Product Closure of a Plus Exclusive 

Plus Exclusives will be covered under We Got Your Back as a Select Product subject to its applicable Closure Date.

For We Got Your Back protection to apply to a Product that is a Plus Exclusive, the Product must have been purchased when it was listed as a Plus Exclusive.

Not Applicable. Plus Exclusives are only available for purchase by AppSumo Plus Customers.

We Got Your Back is effective as of the date last updated as set forth above and shall govern AppSumo’s obligations in connection with Product Closures other than those previously announced by AppSumo. Please note that this Guarantee may be updated by AppSumo at any time by posting an updated Guarantee on www.appsumo.com. Any such updates shall be effective upon the date posted unless otherwise stated therein.
